The Lord Is Ever Watching
By Chris Roberts

The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.
Proverbs 15:3

Let this little verse aid your obedience today. First, let it provide you with comfort. You know that no matter what you may face today, God sees and knows it all. He has already written your days (Psalm 139:16) and he watches over you and walks with you as you live those days. Nothing can happen that does not fit within your Father’s good plan, so rest knowing that both the trials and the joys of the day are under the sovereign authority of God.

Second, let this verse fill you with fear. It is right for us to fear since the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge (Proverbs 1:7). We do not fear as a person might who stands before an enemy. Ours is the fear of children who know what terrible power is held by our Father. He sees our lives. He knows our sins. He sees everything. Turn off the lights and close the curtains, he sees. Travel to a distant city, he sees. Hide dark thoughts in your mind, he sees. And there will be judgment for every sin.

Third, let this verse lead you to mourning. Christian, he sees your sin and he will judge your sin but that judgment has fallen on Christ. He who has seen every dark moment in your life has taken all the darkness and placed it on Christ. He has given you grace, but still you sin. Every sin of yours is an affront to the mercy of a holy God. You defy him to his face – for it is to his face, he sees every bit of your sin. Mourn over your sin! Weep that you would defy such a wonderful Father.

Fourth, let this verse cause you to rejoice. God has seen your sin. He knows every bit of your disobedience. Nonetheless, he called you to be his child. The guilt that fills you now, the sin that comes to mind, before he ever saved you God knew you would commit that sin and he still saved you. You are his child, you are secure in him.

Finally, let this verse stir you to obedience. The eyes of the Lord are always, always, always upon you. Will your heart be so hard that it runs after disobedience? Remember that your Father sees you. Make it your desire to please him by the way you live. You are his child, he is already pleased with you – not because of your actions but because of Christ. But let your actions reflect those of Christ so that you live out the things pleasing to God.
